Historical development
Journalism education in Xiamen University has a long history. In 1922, Xiamen University started the early journalism education, which created the precedent for Chinese. In 1983, the department of journalism and communication was founded, named “communication” in mainland of China at first, which showed the pioneering spirit of journalism people in Xiamen University. In 2007, the School of journalism and communication was founded and its education stepped into a new period of rapid development. A modern school of journalism and communication, facing the ocean, the first-class in Asian, is being established to cultivate journalism and communication talents, standing in China with an international vision.

the department of journalism was founded, which is then suspended in 1926.

the department of journalism and communication was founded, named “communication”. Advertising and international journalism were created pioneering in mainland of China.

“broadcasting and television” was founded, and it began to recruit students in 1989.

master degree program of journalism was set up.

communication was granted as the key subject in Fujian Province.

master degree program of communication was set up.

doctor degree program of communication in second-degree subject and master degree program of journalistic communication in first-degree subject was set up.

In 2007
School of Journalism and Communication of Xiamen University was formally founded.

“communication” was founded.

doctor degree program of journalism and communication in first-degree subject was set up.
